Being an ex pat from the UK I know it only as football and the Puerto Rico national team are going up against the odds on June 14 as they take on Honduras in the second game of their 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

The first game in Honduras on June 5, was a bit of a nightmare for Puerto Rico as they were soundly beaten 4 – 0. It is going to be a real tall order to think that Puerto Rico will be able to turn this match around, but anything is possible. Having won there first game in almost 14 years against the Dominican Republic to set up the match with Honduras, Puerto Rico now have just 90 minutes to keep there World Cup dreams alive.

If you would like to be part of this game, then head to the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel, Bayamon on June 14.

The APSPR Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit will be holding their latest event at Domes Beach, Rincon.

The beach gets its name from the old nuclear power station’s dome shape (it’s closed now), just north of Rincon lighthouse. At this time of year, waves can be any where from 2 to 15 feet. It is one of the best known beaches for surfing and back in 1968, the World Championship was held there and Fred Hemmings came out on top.

The APSPR Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit event is one of the biggest to visit Puerto Rico and with $15,000 in prize money; it will attract a lot of great surfers.

Don’t worry if surfing is not you thing, with the event in town, Rincon is going to be buzzing (so if you are looking for something a little quieter, may be check out Cabo Roja).

Don’t forget, that February is also one of the best times to Whale watch here in Puerto Rico; so why not combine them both together.

We mentioned this a few months back when it was announced that the PGA would be holding there first ever tour here in Puerto Rico. Well with just under 2 months to go, we thought we should give it another mention.

On March 17 to 23 the Puerto Rico PGA Open will take place at the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club. This is awesome news for golf fans here in Puerto Rico and I am sure there will be hundreds of fans traveling from the States as well.

The Coco Beach Golf & Country Club is 14 miles east of San Juan and the 36 hole golf course was designed by PGA tour professional Tom Kite. The course has been designed so that the four nine hole courses offer the golfer different dramatic landscapes; mountain, ocean, lakes and palms.

This is an update to the MLS tournament that took place at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

On Saturday March 24 FC Dallas played Rochester Rhinos in their second game of the tournament. The 5pm game saw FC Dallas take an early lead in the 7th minute with a goal from Carlos Toja. The lead was doubled early in the second half when Arturo Alvarez converted an assist by Juan Carlos Toja. The final score was FC Dallas 2, Rochester Rhinos 0.

In the second game, the Puerto Rico Islanders were looking to keep their winning streak going; unfortuantely this was not to be as they lost to the LA Galaxy 2-1. LA Galaxy score their goals in the 2nd and 24th minutes with the Puerto Rico Islanders scoring in the 4th minute.

Hopefully this MLS tournament will return to Puerto Rico next season, as it is a great oppertunity for the Puerto Rioc Islanders to test themselves against MLS opposition.

On Thursday March 22, FC Dallas and LA galaxy took to the field at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón, for a four way tournament against Rochester Rhinos and the Puerto Rico Islanders.

LA Galaxy took on Rochester Rhinos who almost produced a shock, in a high scoring game that saw the Rhinos take a 2-0 lead, before the Galaxy turned it around to win 3 goals to two.

FC Dallas on the other hand were not so fortunate when they took on the hosts, the Puerto Rico Islanders. In a close encounter with FC Dallas in control for much of the game, Dallas were unable to capitalize on their early possession and it was Islanders striker Alex Marcina who proved to be the difference on the night. In the 32nd minute Marcina converted a cross from the right to score the only goal of the evening. The final score Puerto Rico Islanders 1 – 0 FC Dallas. Attendance was 5, 321

Saturday March 24, sees the final two games with FC Dallas playing Rochester Rhinos at 5pm and The Islanders taking on LA Galaxy at 8pm. With one win already for the Islanders, they must surely be looking to upset the mighty Galaxy.

On Friday and Saturday April 20 / 21 2007 “The Steel Thunder Monster Truck Tour” will be in town at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, San Juan, Puerto Rico. You will get the chance to see these monster trucks go head to head as they try to progress to the National Monster Truck Finals.

As well as monster trucks, there will be riders of the US Freestyle Motocross Association performing thrill-inducing stunts. Kyle Woods 6 Time USA National Champion Street Bike Freestyle Rider will also be here along with several other Street Bike Freestyle Riders.

If you are looking for a quite peaceful evening here in Puerto Rico, then this is not for you. On the other hand if you are looking for a wild ride of a night, then this could definitely be the place to be.

Just wanted to give a quick update on the upcoming 4-way pre-season invitational tournament featuring MLS clubs LA Galaxy and FC Dallas and USL’s Rochester Rhino.

According to the Puerto Rico Islanders site the games are as follows (games will be played at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón):

March 22 @ 5pm Rochester v LA Galaxy
March 22 @ 8pm Puerto Rico Islanders V FC Dallas

March 24 @ 5pm Rochester V FC Dallas
March 24 @ 8pm Puerto Rico Islanders v LA Galaxy

For soccer here in Puerto Rico, this tournament in my opinion is awesome and as these will be the last pre-season games for the two MLS clubs, we can only hope that we get to see plenty of the first team players in action. It’s just a shame that David Beckham will not have joined LA Galaxy for this trip.

Hopefully, if the tournament is a success, we might get more teams here next year.
