This is an update to the MLS tournament that took place at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

On Saturday March 24 FC Dallas played Rochester Rhinos in their second game of the tournament. The 5pm game saw FC Dallas take an early lead in the 7th minute with a goal from Carlos Toja. The lead was doubled early in the second half when Arturo Alvarez converted an assist by Juan Carlos Toja. The final score was FC Dallas 2, Rochester Rhinos 0.

In the second game, the Puerto Rico Islanders were looking to keep their winning streak going; unfortuantely this was not to be as they lost to the LA Galaxy 2-1. LA Galaxy score their goals in the 2nd and 24th minutes with the Puerto Rico Islanders scoring in the 4th minute.

Hopefully this MLS tournament will return to Puerto Rico next season, as it is a great oppertunity for the Puerto Rioc Islanders to test themselves against MLS opposition.

According to the Puerto Rico Islanders site the games are as follows (games will be played at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón):

March 22 @ 5pm Rochester v LA Galaxy
March 22 @ 8pm Puerto Rico Islanders V FC Dallas

March 24 @ 5pm Rochester V FC Dallas
March 24 @ 8pm Puerto Rico Islanders v LA Galaxy

For soccer here in Puerto Rico, this tournament in my opinion is awesome and as these will be the last pre-season games for the two MLS clubs, we can only hope that we get to see plenty of the first team players in action. It’s just a shame that David Beckham will not have joined LA Galaxy for this trip.

Hopefully, if the tournament is a success, we might get more teams here next year.

OK, well not exactly, but almost as good. Two MLS teams look set to play some pre-season games here in Puerto Rico. FC Dallas and LA Galaxy appear to have agreed to play a four team tournament with the Puerto Rico Islanders and Rochester Rhinos.

According to the Puerto Rico Islanders website FC Dallas and LA Galaxy will be here to play games on March 22 and March 24 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. The exact itinerary has yet to be finalized but it looks like there will be two games on both of the dates starting at 5pm and then 8pm.

With the 2007 MLS season set to be even more exciting and with even more world wide coverage (remember David Beckham is coming to MLS), plus the USA contemplating making a bid for the 2018 World Cup; this is a great opportunity for the soccer fans on the island to see some world class players from the MLS

Some players on the roster of FC Dallas are:
Shaka Hislop: former English Premier League goalkeeper for Newcastle United, West Ham United and Portsmouth
Carlos Ruiz: former LA galaxy striker who was top scorer in 2004

And for LA Glaxay:
Landon Donovan: USA national team regular and one of the most famous soccer players in America
Chris Albright: another USA national team member
Cobi Jones: yet another USA national team player

Unfortunately, David Beckham will not have joined the LA Galaxy at this time, as he will be fulfilling his contract with Real Madrid.

The above games and dates are all subject to change, so it would be worthwhile checking the Puerto Rico Islanders website and the MLS sites for FC Dallas and LA Galaxy for up to date information.

So with both Man United and Chelsea faultering over the Christam / New Year Period, what will 2007 hold for the two title challengers?

Well, manager Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) claimed just before Christmas that certain players were untouchable such as Drogba and Ballack and then he slams them for a couple of poor performances. Not my idea of getting the best out of your players.

On the other hand Alex Ferguson (Man United) just keeps plodding away with his current squad, with the addition of Larsen who should make an appearance this weekend (plus the continued interest in hargreaves).

The January transfer window is about to open and Mourinho is the more likely candidate to rush into transfers, due to the lack of form of the current Chelsea squad. Whether getting John Terry back in defense will improve things, time will tell. They are virtually the same squad as last year and should still be able to get the job done. United on the other hand have definitely grown this season as a team and if Ronaldo can keep his level of play going and Rooney can reach 3/4 of his potential, they will be hard to stop.
