Puerto Rican Danza Week

May 12 to 21, 2007
This week celebrates the most expressive art form in the Puerto Rican culture: danza music and dance. Rooted in Puerto Rico’s Spanish heritage, danza was originally enjoyed by the wealthy as a common social activity. Eventually, all Puerto Ricans came to enjoy the music and danza became an island wide tradition. The traditional danza expresses lost loves, romantic confessions and shared affections and inspired composers such as Juan Morel Campos. Puerto Rico’s best-known and most sentimental danza is its national anthem, La Borinqueña.

Events will be held throughout Puerto Rico
