Last Minute Mothers Day Ideas In Puerto Rico

Well, Mothers Day is this weekend and if you are still looking for some ideas here are a few from Visit The Coqui.

Old San JuanIf you really want to give a surprise this Mothers Day and you are not already here; how about treating her to a weekend break in Puerto Rico. This will not be the cheapest of options for Mothers Day, but if you feel like pushing the boat out, why not? I have just checked for prices and from New York you can get return fares for around $450 (this will be cheaper the further south you are located) and a 3 Star hotel in San Juan for around $130 per night.

If you are here in Puerto Rico the next few ideas will be cheaper and easier to arrange.

La Bombonera in Old San JuanHave a Mother’s day brunch at ‘La Bombonera’. It might not be the fanciest restaurant in Old San Juan, but it is one of the oldest café’s on the island and it has been serving delicious pastries, sandwiches and homemade Puerto Rican food since 1902. If you do go here, don’t forget dessert.

Chirangas at El MorroPrepare a picnic and spend the afternoon in the grounds of El Morro in Old San Juan. Here your mother can relax and take in the breeze and enjoy the free and amazing chiringa (kite) show that will be taking place. The grounds outside El Morro are a great place for families, especially on a Sunday afternoon where children and adults battle for space to fly their chiringas.

La Gauncha in PonceTake a trip to Ponce on the south of Puerto Rico and wander around this historic city. Check out the old fire station and relax in the Julio Enrique Monagas Park. End the day at ‘La Guancha’ and stroll along the boardwalk. Ponce is just over an hours drive from San Juan (traffic permitting).

There are many more wonderful places to take your mother here in Puerto Rico and I am sure you will have no trouble in surprising her with what ever you choose. Just remember, a restaurant (and there are a host of amazing restaurants throughout Puerto Rico) is always a good choice, if you are struggling for a gift.
