Major League Soccer (MLS) coming to Puerto Rico…
OK, well not exactly, but almost as good. Two MLS teams look set to play some pre-season games here in Puerto Rico. FC Dallas and LA Galaxy appear to have agreed to play a four team tournament with the Puerto Rico Islanders and Rochester Rhinos.
According to the Puerto Rico Islanders website FC Dallas and LA Galaxy will be here to play games on March 22 and March 24 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. The exact itinerary has yet to be finalized but it looks like there will be two games on both of the dates starting at 5pm and then 8pm.
With the 2007 MLS season set to be even more exciting and with even more world wide coverage (remember David Beckham is coming to MLS), plus the USA contemplating making a bid for the 2018 World Cup; this is a great opportunity for the soccer fans on the island to see some world class players from the MLS
Some players on the roster of FC Dallas are:
Shaka Hislop: former English Premier League goalkeeper for Newcastle United, West Ham United and Portsmouth
Carlos Ruiz: former LA galaxy striker who was top scorer in 2004
And for LA Glaxay:
Landon Donovan: USA national team regular and one of the most famous soccer players in America
Chris Albright: another USA national team member
Cobi Jones: yet another USA national team player
Unfortunately, David Beckham will not have joined the LA Galaxy at this time, as he will be fulfilling his contract with Real Madrid.
The above games and dates are all subject to change, so it would be worthwhile checking the Puerto Rico Islanders website and the MLS sites for FC Dallas and LA Galaxy for up to date information.
